After graduating in molecular biology and genetics from the University of Basel, Martin Fussenegger earned his doctorate from the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen in the field of medical microbiology. After postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin, Martin Fussenegger completed his habilitation at the ETH Zurich and was later given a full professorship for biotechnology and bioengineering at the ETH Zurich. After heading the Institute for Chemistry and Bioengineering, he took over the development and management of the ETH Biosystems Department at ETH Zurich in Basel. Martin Fussenegger is a member of the board of directors of Bernstein Bâtir AG and in this function has a significant influence on the strategic planning and direction of the company.
